It’d be good to see to what extent paradata can be collected and distributed also in relation to “families” of OERs (OERs that stem totally or partly from the same “original” OER).

If paradata relating older versions of a resource, particularly any paradata that adds reputation, can be attached to an ulterior “version” of an OER, multiplication of similar versions will be rewarded, but also an incentive to publishing remixed and recontextualised versions will be created.

If this was to be the case, could paradata reflect any information about the position of tany resource in relation to a chain or family of resources?

Conversely, if paradata refers exclusively to each version, in other words, if paradata is not “transportable”, the first OER of that “family” will have relative advantage in building a reputation and that might have two consequences:

-relative fossilisation of popular “first generation OERs”, as impact-seeking users won’t have an incentive of sharing remixed versions,

-perhaps greater incentive to be more “original” when creating resources.

Obviously, the reflecting upon the educational consequences of “transportability” of paradata is only speculative thinking at the moment, but I think it is an idea that needs to be introduced in the equation when looking at the technicalities of this initiative.

Happy New Year to all the Team,

Antonio
