Here there are already competing platforms (so post-hoc) and the solution is global, but it doesn’t involve primarily standardising anything or any kind of consortium building.

I like this kind of analytical approach and definitely agree that the combination of these stereotypes is where things get more interesting. One simple-to-say but not-as-common-as-it-should-be attitude for workers taking all these approaches is that of discovering and reusing prior work. I certainly think “we” (this community) could do a lot more to make visible and discoverable what has been done.
