I’ve just been sent a link to an article on the ePractice blog by Per Busch about Making Wikipedia Fully Accessible for All. Per is looking for funding to try and remove some of the barriers to accessibility for screen reader and visually impaired users of MediaWiki. Some of the areas which are still considered to be problematic include CAPTCHAs and screen reader issues (see Accessibility and Wikis for a longer list).
Comments and suggestions (or offers of funding!) can be left at Per’s post – Making Wikipedia Fully Accessible for All.
